The most important of the two documents is the Promissory Note because it is the actual evidence of the debt. The purpose of the Mortgage secure payment of the Note by designating specified real estate owned by the debtor as collateral. When you open the wordprocessing file to begin your editing you will find the Promissory Note at the end of the document labeled as an "Exhibit" to the Mortgage. Remember: You need to print two versions of the Note. You need to create one version to be the actual original promissory note to be signed by the debtor. It will be given to the creditor and kept in the creditor's records (it is NOT to be recorded in the Public Record) The other version of the Promissory Note will be used as an attachment to the Mortgage (labeled "Exhibit A").
